Batman Begins rocks, best Batman movie ever, and coming from a fan of the first two Tim Burton films, that is a big claim. There's already rumours of the casting for The Joker if there's a sequel and no one likes Katie Holmes anymore. I had planned on doing a feature about the history of Batman, mainly his changes in costumes in comics, TV and film. While researching I decided I couldn't be arsed doing it because there are tons of different batsuits out there, far too many for me to accurately define each one. Though there was some strange variations of the suit out there, like this one from the 1940's serials, where he looks more like The Tick than Batman. After giving up on that idea I thought I'd simplify it a bit, and just do a history of the Batmobile, but it too was far too time consuming to do comprehensively. This was before I found www.batmobilehistory.com has already done all the work for me. The site is fairly detailed, from the first appearance of a simple red car with a batsymbol hood ornament in 1941 which was the first vehicle to be dubbed "The Batmobile" to the black tank "The Tumbler" in Batman Begins and all the different variations in between. Some of the more unique ones are this monster truck, this almost Giger-like thing, some concepts that never made the cut and my most hated batmobile...from Batman Forever, where you could see the fins wobbling as it drove around. While still on the topic of cars, some fruitcake has stuck thousands of keyboard keys to his car and here's a cool new vehicle built to explore the arctic. Finally George Lucas has too much money, he needs to give me some. This guy has too much time, and these animals eat too much. |

Boofhead

![]() Been a while since I've updated, I've been up near Cairns for my nephews christening... Now I am The Godfather. Anyway, Rockstar Games, the makers of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas are apparently in a bit of trouble over a hidden mini-game in the latest game in the trilogy (so far). It's a fully detailed sex game hidden within the game world that some people have discovered, check out a video of it in action. Some guy I've never heard of who was going to take over Bryan Singer's role as director of X-Men 3 has dropped out and apparently the new director is rumoured to be either Brett Ratner, who made Red Dragon which wasn't bad, as well as the dodgy Rush Hour movies or John "Behind Enemy Lines" Moore. I'll have to use this next bit to segway from games to movies, but they're going to turn the Hitman series of games into a movie with Vin Diesel tipped to star in the role of Agent 47. I guess it works, I mean - he's bald, I just imagine the character a bit less boofheaded and more like that bad guy from the latest series of 24. Speaking of 24, Sony is making a game on the PS2 based on the show. I'm assuming it'll be an exclusive to PS2 and maybe PC since Sony is developing it, bastards, I came up with an idea for 24 game a year ago, but it looks like they're using a more traditional game mechanics and not something that would suit the real-time format like what I was thinking. Batman Begins opens this weeks and it's been getting some good reviews. It just might beat out Revenge of the Sith, Vader can even see it coming. If you still want something to do after going through all the crap I just posted, check out Kitten War and the Plantimals Photoshop Competition entries. Oh yeah, Michael Jackson is innocent or something, but that didn't stop Triumph the Insult Dog from laying into his fans. Oops, I almost forgot, I added a forum to the site, it's mainly for some private developer stuff, but I made a public forum in case anyone wants to sign up and post crap, that's all I do here anyway. |

![]() I just finished watching King Arthur, which was pretty forgettable. It tells the story of King Arthur who fights off a Saxon invasion with the help of an army of smurfs. This butchered version of the Arthurian legend was brought to you by another "why does this guy get to keep making films" - Jerry "what's subtlety?" Bruckheimer. Anyway, in a follow-up up to my last post about the Masters of Doom book, and what must be just good timing, Mike Wilson, former id software employee and the now-defunct Ion Storm COO is suing the publishers of the book - Random House for making false claims and damaging his reputation. According to the book he used $30,000 of company money while at Ion Storm to purchase a BMW. Wilson claims that this statement is false and damaging his reputation, so now he's suing them for a figure of $50 Million (!) in damages he has suffered in shame, humiliation and mental anguish. He claims that the book has damaged his attempts to get his start-up game publisher company, wait for it....Gamecock Media Group off the ground. There's another article about it online if you want to hear more about this guy's gamecock. On to some more entertaining stuff, check out this guy scratch the Star Wars Imperial March. Also it looks like people have their own version of the user edited encyclopedia Wikipedia, called the Uncyclopedia, check out their description for LOL or the Bible... The Holy Bible is a fantasy novel written in Quangle composed by Liza Minelli and Bob Dole and revised by the famous Roman comedian Moses. Later on, it became King David (of Greece)'s favourite book. As David grew insane, however, he decided to rewrite it, with a committee directed by his son, the later Rick James. The Bible was finally completely finished in James' time by the committee, and became known as the King James Bible. The "experts" at Wikipedia also have their own entry for the Uncyclopedia, and vice versa. Finally, check out my work-mate's mum's smarty cat (17Mb), and George W sings the Beatles (3Mb). |

Intergalactic planet-terraforming, galaxy-destroying motherfucker

I picked up a book the other day called "Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture" it's basically the story of the founders of id software, John Carmack and John Romero and their path to creating classic games like Wolfenstien 3D, the Doom series and later the Quake series. It's a pretty interesting read if you're a gamer, and gives a realistic view of game development, it's surprising how similar game developers are in behavior and interests. I found many similarities to my own (limited) experiences in my short career, but it's a bit inspiring to hear about some of the obstacles they got past to get to the positions in their career they are now. Speaking of Doom, Dark Horizons has a report from the set of the Doom movie, it doesn't give away too much info, but it does look like they're going to be faithful to the game and not dumbing down the violence to appeal to the kiddies, it's aiming for an R rating. According to the article they're going to try and use as little CGI as possible as well, with most of the monsters being recreated via traditonal means. This all makes it sound like it might not be that bad after all... but then you have to remember it's being directed by a Steven "Hard to Kill" Segal collaborator. I meant do add some E3 stuff, but well if you haven't heard the news that came out of it by now, you don't care about E3 anyway. Instead check out the video of Will "The Sims" Wright talk on his new game Spore which I wrote about a while ago. It goes for about an hour, and you'll have to register with the site (it's very quick to register though) but it's well worth seeing the game in action, actually seeing how you can go from a microscopic bug to a intergalactic planet-terraforming, galaxy-destroying motherfucker in one game. But anyway, since I'm so late in writing stuff about E3 2005, I thought I'd post this link to the E3 Chronicles: The First 10 Years which is an interesting read on previous E3s over the past 10 years, what was the big unveiling and events at each one. It's funny to read about Duke Nukem Forever being announced all the way back in 1997...and it still isn't out. And Prey, from the same company - 3D Realms - being talked about all the way back in 1995...and it's only just been reannounced now at E3 2005. Lastly here's pretty funny speaker commerical. Time for snuggles? |
