Why does this guy get to keep making films?

Yes, there is a god. This has got to be the craziest amusement park ride ever, you wouldn't catch me dead on it. Thought it still wouldn't be as bad as getting owned by a girl. A malfunctioning version of that ride would be right at home in this eerie abandoned amusement park. The Darth Side: Memoirs of a Monster is finally finished, but there's been a few minor additions to the site since then, you can grab the whole diary in in chronological order in PDF or HTML format. A fairly amusing resume of Vader's has also been added. I thought there was some pretty weird ideas for computer games our there, but this one would have to take the cake...Erotic...Chess, the name says it all, but the screenshots are still worth checking out. If you thought Darth Vader screaming "Noooooooo!" at the end of Revenge of the Sith was corny, he had good reason to be upset. But if you want to see a game engine put to good use, check out this little video of some physics setups. It also looks like Michael "Why does this guy get to keep making films" Bay is going to ruin the Transformers live-action movie. |

![]() I am your father It seems rumours are afoot that Matt "Son of Moonface" Newton will be playing Anikan Skywalker the Star Wars TV show being planned. Apparently he was Lucas's second choice for the character after Hayden Christensen. Lucas's office apparently asked about his availability, and I guess they're just jumping to conclusions, he could be wanted for a different part completely in the show, or maybe even something in the next Indiana Jones movie. It looks like true sequels to the original trilogy might be on the way after all. If that's got you in the mood for some Star Wars crap, then go play 20 Questions with Darth Vader. This is an interesting way to the play the Pulp Fiction theme on guitar...And this is a floaty dog. |

I'm not sure whether to be excited or scared, but it seems they're going to be making a sequel to the Jim Henson classic, The Dark Crystal. I wonder if in this day and age whether CGI will be required to compete with the technical evolution that has occurred since the original was made, and whether this will improve or ruin the style. I think a combination of puppetry with some CGI tweaking (but not too much)might be the way to go, removing strings and freeing up movement a bit. Speaking of puppets...this one is a bit old, but I thought I'd post it anyway, the Team America: World Police "America, Fuck Yeah!" video. Yet another Batman Begins trailer is out, but this one isn't an ordinary trailer, it's a 10 minute preview of the movie due out next month. Be warned though, it is 100Mb. There's also a nice preview online for League of Gentlemen's: apocalypse, showing the first 5 minutes of the UK TV show-to-movie adaptation. If the first gag in this is any indication, it should be a crack-up. Lastly, I have no idea if this is real or not, but it's pretty damn funny either way. Actually, this is lastly...I finally got around to doing an online version of my resume to add to my online portfolio. This was meant to be a post about E3, but there's so much news to go through I didn't know where to start, so I'll get to that at some stage, and hopefully try and dig up some articles on upcoming interesting games hidden amongst all the hype and crap. |

Now With Extra Tentacles!

I've been having server issues the last few days, which has caused the site to disappear and when it is up, I have been unable to make any updates or change anything. It seems to be back and all working for now though. Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is finally out, I went and saw the midnight screening in the early hours of Thursday morning. It was great, a huge improvement over the previous two prequels. Though not perfect, it is closer to the original trilogy. I'll have to see it again, but at the moment I'd say it's tied at 3rd best movie overall with Return of the Jedi, with The Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope 1st and 2nd respectively. I might go into more detail in another post but for now that will do, I'll just go ahead and post some fun star wars stuff I've come across in the (nearly) week the site has been screwing up.... Store Wars The Sith Explained Darth Vader - This is your life... Astromech.net - The Official Website of the R2 Builders Club Lego Star Wars - Revenge of the Brick Storm Troopers Off Duty, Volume I and Volume II Top 10 Lamest Star Wars Characters And some non-Star Wars stuff... A day in Stunt City New War of the Worlds Trailer - Now with extra Tentacles! Frasier is Beast in X-men 3 Wallace and Grommit - Curse of the Wererabbit Trailer |

HBO's Carnivale has been cancelled after only two brilliant seasons. One of the best TV shows I've seen since the early years of the X-Files is no more. The show's creator spoke out about the cancellation and although things are grim, he urges all fans to recommend the show to friends, lend them taped copies or get the series on DVD (make him some money). The cancellation of Family Guy on Fox and it's recent ressurection due to good ratings in sydnication and DVD sales goes to show their may still be hope. If not for new seasons, but maybe a film, tv movie or mini-series, anything that can give some closure to the storyline, which was left wide open at the end of the second series. In more upbeat TV news, it seems pretty damn likely that Fox's comedy series Arrested Development will be picked up for another season or two. E3 is just around the corner and everyone is strutting their stuff already, The XBox 2 has been unvield and now officially named "XBox 360". I guess some marketing guru told Microsoft that people are stupid and will think the "3" means it's just as good as the "3" in Playstation 3, rather than Xbox 2...because 3 is are higher number than 2... There's lots of screenshots floating around of the Xbox 360 running some games, but nothing has impressed me too much yet, don't get me wrong, the shots look good, but I was expecting more I guess. The videos I've seen of Unreal 3 look better than most of the shots I've seen, but maybe seeing some videos of the console in action will change my opinon. |

Hot Bridge-on-Bridge Action

I was checking out some of the games on the Experimental Gameplay Project's website, and they have a few cool games, but one out of all of them I found quite cool reminded me of a few old games I'd played a few years back. This is the projects goal in their own words... The Experimental Gameplay Project:create 50 to 100 games in 1 semester. New games every week. The Rules:
The one game that stood out for me was the Tower of Goo Game, which is similar in design to an old game called Bridge Builder AKA Pointiflex. Basically the idea is you build a structure (a tower in Tower of Goo, bridges in Bridge Builder/Pointifex) using simple nodes and supports and it has to support it's own weight against gravity. It seems there's several different takes on the same idea floating around in various demos and freeware games so I thought I'd share a few of them Bridge Builder - Download Pointifex (Bridge Builder II) - Download Bridge Construction Set (Pointiflex II) - Download Bridge It - Download (Nvidia Video Cards Only) West Point Bridge Designer 2005 - Download Tower of Goo - Download Bridge Builder seems to be the first in the series, followed by Pointiflex, which along with Bridge Construction Set and Bridge It are all done by the same company, Chronic Logic. While West Point Bridge Designer seems to be more of a realistic simulation, possibly for engineering students. Tower of Goo seems to be a simple, fast gameplay take on the whole idea. |

Nice, Big, Wide

I found an awesome panoramic photo stitching program called AutoStitch while browsing QGL forums, for those that don't know what that is, it takes several photos you've taken of a particular location and converts them into a nice big wide panoramic photo. A lot of programs have claimed to do this in the past, but this one seems to work perfectly each time, I even tried taking 40 screenshots of one scene of a level I made and ran it through it, and it came out brilliantly. Here's the link for those who are interested, it is a free download, it says it's a demo, but I can't see any limitations in it, not even a trial period. Here's a couple of panoramic views I made wtih it, the first is taken from screenshots of The Unseelie, the second are made from 22 photos I took on my street, it was originally 22000 pixels wide before I resized it !. Click on the images for larger versions. ![]() |

Piss-Funny Piss-Take

Not much happening, so I'll just go ahead and post some crap again... ![]() Gamespy has an article up entitled The Art Design of Quake 4 which is an interesting read if you're that way inclined. I personally preferred Quake 2 over 1 and 3 so I'm happy they're going back to that style and setting. There's a couple of screenshots and some concept art littered through the article that are worth checking out. I got sent a link to a little site called Abstinence Only, it's basically a piss-funny piss-take of Christians with the no-sex-before-marriage policy, and their suggestions for working around it. Here's a little taste of what you'll find... Dear Doctor Frist, ...Fun for the whole family....Anyway... In other crap, Tenacious D has begun recording music for their movie "Pick of Destiny", which should be sweet. And the teaser trailer for The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is online. I haven't actually watched it yet, since it uses AOL's weird media player crap, but it should be interesting to see what it looks like, there's probably only 3 people in the western world that didn't read the books as a child. Not many of the sites I link to here I actually visit more than once (with the exception of spamusement) but I've actually been regularly going back to The Darth Side: Memoirs of a Monster, which I previously linked as Darth Vaders Weblog. The writing is really well done, and piss-funny if you're interested in star wars. He just goes places you don't think about in the star wars universe, like, how the hell does Darth Vader eat a meal?. The answer?....pureed meat through a straw. I added a little random text thingy on the Gore screenshots in the levels section, with some quotes from reviews about my level design work in Gore. I've only be able to test it in IE, so if it doesn't work for you in other browsers, well tuff shit because I couldn't be fucked fixing it if it's not. If you're reading this baby, you should be studying! XX |

Slumped Over Dead

Gamespy has an article online about the upcoming Doom Movie, with several photos from the set. I get the feeling this one is gonna suck, given the track record of the director, Andrzej Bartkowiak, who I've never heard of, but has done such modern masterpieces as "Exit Wounds", "Romeo Must Die" and "Cradle 2 The Grave". Anyone who's ever worked with Steven "Marked for Death" Seagal loses my respect and any credibility they may have had. Just as I got worked up for the new Star Wars I see this pepsi ad which makes me think Star Wars is being milked to death with no respect being paid for the franchise. I don't know why this surprises me considering you can already get Star Wars Scratchies. But this kinda makes up for it, the actor inside R2D2 had pictures of naked women plastered all inside the costume while he was wearing it, also that guy is 70!, luckily this is the last movie, any more and they might open it up one day and find he's slumped over dead. Whoever voted in IGN's Top 99 Games of All-time, needs to be shot. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory at #3? it's only been out, what? a month?. |

You're a little disabled for a Stormtrooper
5/03/2005 11:58:00 AM | Tuesday, May 03, 2005 |
![]() Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is due out this month (19th May) so as usual I'm getting a bit excited to see it and caught up in the hype, no doubt to be disappointed anyway. But I thought I'd share some of the Star Wars stuff I've seen over the last few days, so you can get hyped up and disappointed as well. Lots of and Lots of Stormtroopers (16Mb Video) at some Star Wars convention in the US, keep an eye out for the disabled Tie Fighter Pilots and the Jango Fett in need of a chiropractor. Chewbacca's weblog, spoken in his own language, with a wookie dictionary on one of the earlier posts. Darth Vader's weblog, written from vader's perspective during the time period of the original trilogy. Here's a little snippet... At any rate, the attack on the hidden rebel base began and I had General Veers mount a ground assault. Once his walkers had destroyed the rebel generator I made planetfall and personally supervised our incursion into the base. I must say that the stormtroopers' new heavy weather gear makes them look very cool. Hats off to Palpatine. (Most people don't know this but His Excellency designs all of our outerwear personally; he has a real flair for geometry, and a great sense of line.)Empire Magazine talks to Kevin "Mallrats" Smith, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright (Spaced / Shaun of the Dead) on the topic of Star Wars. Hollywood.com interviews George "Howard the Duck" Lucas. On topics like Digital Projection, and his plans after Star Wars. So does Wired. A music video for a classical soundtrack from Episode III? And finally Kevin Smith gives his review of Revenge of the Sith (warning, contains spoilers) |
